Job description:
- News Editor who will be responsible for writing, editing, and coordinating for delivery of News Production. The role will report directly to the Editor-in-Chief.
- Our ideal candidate is a passionate and experienced journalist with 5 plus years of business writing and editing exposure.
- They bring with them the ability to effortlessly lead a team of journalists to fulfill existing editorial goals with news production delivery.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work with senior editors for building daily, weekly and monthly rosters for the team.
- Monitoring feeds, and identifying trends for preparing the day’s schedule.
- Editing (language, validating, and fact-checking) and getting stories published while maintaining optimum TAT per story, scaling news publishing to x no. stories a day.
- Ensuring data-driven value-adds in stories whenever required while ensuring deadlines and enabling team members to meet targets on a regular basis.
- Enabling and training team for — breaking, exclusive stories; bringing in more depth in the stories; interviewing ecosystem stakeholders; and in time enabling reporters to produce 2-3 exclusive stories per week.
- Building newsletter order/content and coordinating with the senior team for the same.
- Brainstorming new story formats, series, concepts, themes, etc. when needed.
- Enabling the team to understand the story selection process.
- Ensuring timely publishing of breaking stories during odd hours / beyond working hours.
- Sustaining the team’s performance (authors and sub-editors) and upskilling them continuously.
- Ensuring the team’s roster optimisation and happiness.
Annual KRA
- Ensure all stories meet News 365 editorial guidelines, styles and are error-free.
- Timely publication of stories while maintaining quality standards.
- New initiatives for better optimisation of resources.
- Bringing in a scalable change in the quality and quantity of exclusive/breaking news being published.
- Formation of an effective and efficient team by clearing out possible bottlenecks.
Professional Traits
- Individuals with at least 4-5 years of relevant experience in startup/tech reporting/business writing.
- Bachelor’s or Masters Degree in Journalism / Mass Communication or equivalent.
- Should understand and have a passion for tech/startups.
- Well-informed about broad global tech, digital and startup trends.
- Strong language skills.
- Strong news reporting basics – understanding essentials such as nutgraf, lede, background, news structure/tropes, etc.
- Should have the acumen to understand the tech landscape, and the changing market landscape and foresee upcoming trends
